Project Description: Planning permission granted in February 2011 for development comprising of the provision of additional educational, recreational and associated leisure facilities within Airfield House, Estate, Farm and Gardens and the creation of a new vehicular access to the site from Overend Way via adjoining Dudley’s field lands. The application included renovation of Airfield House, a Protected Structure together with the provision of a new shop and entrance pavilion, new waterside restaurant, new facilities for education, car display, new horticultural and cooking demonstration areas and a new farmyard complex within the Estate.
Scope of Services:
John Spain Associates were appointed as planning consultants to provide planning consultancy services and co-ordinate the planning application for submission to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. John Spain Associates also provided an overall project coordination role for the entire project team, which included Solearth Architecture Ltd and McLoughlin Conservation Architects up to planning approval in February 2011. A number of amendment planning applications have also been granted by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for Revisions to the parent permission.
Airfield reopened in October 2013. The enhancements to Airfield have received a number of architectural awards in recent months including the 2014 Ecocem Green Building Award in April 2014 and it also recently won the best sustainable building and best cultural building categories in the 2014 RIAI Irish Architecture Awards in June 2014.
