The former Kennedy Bakery on Parnell Street and the associated warehouses to the rear were disused buildings in Dublin’s City Centre. In May of 2019, An Bord Pleanala granted permission for the redevelopment of the bakery building and the remaining site in order to provide the city with 257 new student bed spaces.
The location on Parnell Street allows for the regeneration and revitalisation of a key inner-city site, while providing purpose built student accommodation in close proximity to a variety of third level education.
The Kennedy Bakery building dates from 1909 and is a protected structure. Under this permission, it is not only retained but incorporated as the primary access point to the site. The historic nature of the building blends with the updated interior of the development as you move from the existing archway into the series of courtyards.
This application was undertaken as a Strategic Housing Development. JSA was involved throughout the process; participating in meetings, undertaking the pre-planning applications and the SHD application, writing the Opinion Response, EIA Screening, Statement of Consistency and Student Accommodation documents and even assisting on compliance after the grant of permission.
