Biomethane / Anaerobic Digestion
Overview
JSA Planning have coordinated planning applications for several significant biomethane projects around the country. These projects involve large scale anaerobic digestion facilities which include equipment to upgrade biogas to biomethane, and inject it into the national gas grid. Biomethane is targeted to play an important role in the decarbonisation of the gas grid, with the Climate Action Plan targeting 5.7 terawatt hours of biomethane production by 2030.
JSA Planning Role
JSA Planning have coordinated and contributed to the planning applications and EIARs for multiple projects with an overall intake tonnage of c. 90,000 tonnes of feedstock per annum, which will make a significant contribution to the realisation of these targets. JSA have also authored responses to appeals where they have arisen.
Outcome
With several projects now granted planning permission by Planning Authorities and An Coimisiún Pleanála, the developments JSA Planning have helped deliver will assist in realising the ambitious climate targets set by Government.
